Only one month left till one of the biggest and most prestigious events in radiology – RSNA 2018. With hundreds of exhibitors and thousands of representatives from more than 100 countries, RSNA annual meeting is one of the most anticipated radiological events.
This is also one of the best places to spot new trends that are overtaking radiology in the coming year. Many believe that several tendencies will be clearly seen during RSNA 2018.
Increased workflow calls for more efficient solutions
According to Steve Holloway from Signify Research, efficiency should be the first on the list. “With health providers under pressure to deliver high-quality services to more people at lower cost, radiology is increasingly going to be under the microscope as an area for providers to make operational efficiency gains.”* As a result, new hardware and software solutions presented at RSNA 2018 will show to be faster, will require less manual involvement and reduce service downtime.
Being defined as “a set of strategies, initiatives, and workflows implemented across a healthcare enterprise to consistently and optimally capture, index, manage, store, distribute, view, exchange, and analyze all clinical imaging and multimedia content to enhance the electronic health record”*, enterprise imaging is a result of a consolidation trend that has been developing within many healthcare institutions. A new generation of “super” hospitals and concentration of healthcare services imply increased data control and accessibility to deliver better patient outcomes. This requires solutions that can support and enhance collaboration across networks and departments.
AI will still be on the agenda
Artificial intelligence and decision support will still be one of the key topics and focus of attention at RSNA 2018. More and more healthcare professionals start seeing AI solutions as a new way to handle current challenges and demands for improved workflow efficiency while sustaining a high quality of healthcare services.
Wearable technology, the Internet of things, 3D printing and augmented reality will also be something to look forward to at RSNA 2018. New technologies are developed at an increasing speed providing sometimes unexpected ways to overcome modern challenges in the healthcare industry.
